Peripheral vascular
disease (PVD) refers to diseases of the blood
vessels (arteries and veins) located outside the
heart and brain.
The terms Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) or
Peripheral Arterial Occlusion (PAO) refer to
conditions specific to the arteries and includes
conditions that develop when the arteries that
supply blood to the internal organs, arms, and legs
become completely or partially blocked as a result
of the build up of clot or plaque.
The term Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) refers to a
condition specific to the veins of the legs or arms,
that develop when they become partially or
completely blocked as a result of the buildup of
clot.
