About EKOS

EKOS Corporation pioneered the development and the clinical application of ultrasound accelerated thrombolysis, introducing its first system for the treatment of vascular thrombosis in 2005. Today, interventional radiologists, cardiologists and vascular surgeons at leading institutions around the world use the EKOS EkoSonic Endovascular System to provide faster, safer and more complete dissolution of thrombus.

Other applications which deliver physician-prescribed fluids or contrast agent to other targeted locations in the body are under investigation.

Management Bios

Douglas Hansmann, Ph.D
Chief Operating Officer

Doug is a co-founder of EKOS Corporation and has been active as a bio engineer for 44 years. He brings a rich background in product development, clinical studies and operations in the areas of ambulatory ECG monitoring, non-invasive blood pressure measurement, prosthetic limbs, artificial kidney dialysis, fiber optic blood gas sensing and therapeutic ultrasound. Prior to founding EKOS, he held management positions at 3M Health Care and Eli Lilly (Physio Control Corporation). Doug has a doctorate in mechanical/bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from Princeton University.

Matt Stupfel
Vice President and General Manager

Matt has worked as a finance professional for over 25 years with experience in the development and manufacturing of medical devices and dental products. His most recent companies include Boston Scientific Corporation and Heart Technology. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Seattle University.

Curtis Genstler, MD
Vice President, Systems Integration

Dr. Genstler brings more than 24 years of medical and device experience to EKOS. Prior to joining EKOS, he worked at CellPro, and Genetic Systems where he helped develop cell separation technology and medical laboratory instruments respectively. Dr. Curtis Genstler received his MD degree from Loma Linda University and a BS in engineering from Walla Walla University.


Jocelyn Kersten
Vice President, Regulatory and Clinical Affairs

Jocelyn has spent 22 years working in the medical device industry with 10 years of prior medical experience in cardiac catheterization and angiography labs. She has expert knowledge in the area of Regulatory Affairs from her prior companies of Boston Scientific Corporation and Heart Technology. Jocelyn holds a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Regulatory Affairs Professional Certification from the University of Washington.

Tony Litwiller
Vice President, Sales

Tony is an experienced sales executive with over 15 years of leadership and sales experience in the medical and therapeutic device fields. Tony joined EKOS in 2006 as one of the founding members of the sales team formed upon launch of the Company’s EKOS® Lysus® Peripheral Infusion System. In 2008, Tony was promoted to Northeast Sales Director and then in 2013 was promoted to Vice President of Sales for the EKOS/BTG International Group. He leads the US sales force responsible for the EKOS product lines. For the past decade he held sales and training positions of increasing responsibility at Abbott Laboratories, Tyco/Kendall Healthcare, C.R. Bard and Kyphon. Tony holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.

Lori Melkerson
Vice President, Operations

Lori has worked in Manufacturing Engineering and Operations in the medical device industry for 25 years with experience in moving products from concept to commercialization. Prior to joing EKOS she worked for Abbott Laboratories, Heart Technology, and Boston Scientific. Lori has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Mike Wolniewicz
Vice President, Engineering

Mike brings 20 years of medical device experience to EKOS. Prior to joining EKOS he held roles in both manufacturing engineering and research and development at companies such as EndoGastric Solutions, Pathway Medical Technologies, Boston Scientific, and Heart Technology. His past contributions include peripheral vasculature, cardiology, and gastroenterology device development along with several patent disclosures. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a MBA, from the University of Washington.
